FOOD CONTACT

(FOOD CONTACT) Do we really know what this symbol means?

Food Contact
The European legislation governing materials in contact with food is Regulation (EC) n. 1935/2004 and its updates.

The principle behind the regulation is that the materials or objects intended to come into contact, directly or indirectly, with food products must comply      with the transfer limits of the substances harmful to food products that they contain; furthermore they must not entail a substantial change of the composition of the foods or a deterioration of their organoleptic characteristics.

Specifically, the acronym MOCA (Food Contact Materials and Objects) groups together all materials and objects intended to come into contact with food, such as packaging and containers, kitchen tools, or food processing machinery.

All utensils and containers made of different materials which are used in the kitchen are therefore taken into consideration: ceramic, glass, plastic, steel. All these accessories constantly undergo strict tests and checks; analysed under conditions of maximum "stress", to ensure complete inertia in relation to the foods themselves. This guarantees a safe use to the final consumer.
